About Cuisine India

Cooking is an art that is usually passed on from mother to daughter and my case is not different. Many of the recipes that I am going to put up on this blog are those that I learnt from my mom and/or my own variations on them. Some of them of course may have no connection whatsoever to her years of cooking – after all items like Garam masala powder, Tomato sauce, Soya sauce have never been part of her cooking. Yet I think I largely owe my cooking skills to her.

I love cooking and that includes trying out new recipes from time to time. This blog may contain mostly Konkani recipes to start with, but in course of time I will also put up some of the North Indian dishes, Juices, Jams, Biscuits, Dry chutney powders, Pickles  etc. You may even request for recipes of your choice – either because you have not prepared it before or just to know the variations out there.

I am just learning and new to the medium of blogging and to pace myself well, at least for the first few weeks, I will put up  one new recipe every Saturday and Wednesday. Any comment you leave, whether about the blog or about specific recipes will be an encouragement. Finally, I would like to dedicate this blog to my Father-in-law who was a more like a father, guide and philosopher to me. He was also a trustee of the temple in the town of Sirsi (North Kanara) for several years  from  1960-83.

What a treat it is to have found your blog and quite by accident too! We will be cooking using your recipes tomorrow in Texas! It was so good to see some recipes form way back when I lived in Bangalore what seems to be a million years ago!

Thank you and congratulations on the tremendously well put together site! It is so easy to negotiate and recipes are so visual and easy to follow. I will obviously be cooking a lot of your recipes 🙂

    Hi Prathiba,
My search for sannapolo(cabbage spicy dosa) made me land on this blog. Appreciate your patience and like the way you arrange all the ingredients in a plate before cooking.
Apart from the authentic konkani delicacies, you also try to blend in the modern touch too, I’m talking about dishes like oats upma. Commendable!
    Thanks for sharing the recipes.

If I may request for a recipe, it would be for sannana (spicy rava baked). I did not have coconut and yet I tried pressure cooking ground idli rice+ Chillipowder+ water and it was a disaster.

Love your recipes!. We are going to be living in India for 6 months for my husband’s job.
I was wondering if you could put together some entrees with a suggested side dish. should I put a lentil side with chicken pulao, etc.?

      Hi Mary Ann,

I have been thinking of putting up a post mainly about suggesting combinations for a full course meal. Will do it soon. However, I am a vegetarian and therefore can only suggest vegetarian combinations.
Thanks for stopping by and writing.

    Hi Auntie,
Just today I found your amazing site, I was so impressed to see so many recipes. You are doing an excellent work by sharing all your recipes and knowledge.
Auntie, if you could please mention to each recipe recommendations of dishes to serve with, and also if possible to mention for what type of meal is suitable (I mean, if suitable for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack). That will be very helpful.
    Thank you.

      Hi Camelia,
This is an excellent suggestion and similar to a request I received from another reader, very recently !
I generally try to write about whether the dish will go well with rice and/or rotis, and have tried to write about whether it is a breakfast or lunch dish. But I will definitely try to incorporate this into my description regularly.
On the other hand, if you specifically want to know about combinations with certain dishes, please do indicate on those recipes with your comments.

        Hello Auntie,
Thank you. This will be great. It happened to me many times that I choose recipes from the internet, but I didn’t made the proper combination. I’m coming from non indian family,so my knowledge on indian cuisine is little. Since I am married with bengali, mainly I am cooking indian food. I didn’t got chance to learn any from my mother-in-law; however her recipes are non-veg.
It was a real blessing to find your website, especially because i’m trying to inspire my husband to give up non-veg food, and choose vegetarian, healthy food.
Having your recipes and tips on hand, will help me cook great indian meals.

        Many thanks!!

    Hi Prathibaji,
Your recipes look great and I love all the pictures for the step-by-step procedure. I would love to try them. If you do not mind, I would like to give a suggestion. For the end result of your food, take pictures with better angles and nicer bowls. Also, put widgets in your theme that have the links to popular in your side bar. Your amazing website will then get a lot of traffic. Just a suggestion, hope you are not offended. 🙂

      Hi Shil,
Thanx a lot for kind suggestion. I would like to to know in which specific recipe you mean that the bowl is not good and which is a better bowl you noticed here on this blog. Please be free to express and will change it right now for the later new recipes.
